Portland 5 Things to Do This Weekend

Twentieth anniversary of the original SantaCon

1. Not everyone knows this but the very first SantaCon took place in Portland. It was 1996 and people were not quite sure what to make of it. Now, it's an institution. This year, it is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The location is kept secret until the last possible moment. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates. The event is Saturday from Noon to 8:00 p.m..

2. What says holiday spirit more than Tuba Christmas? Not a whole lot. Head to Pioneer Courthouse Square on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. as hundreds of tubas - and their players - gather to give it their all.

3. The Polar Express may be a book and movie but The Holiday Express is very, very real. And in Oaks Park. Sponsored by the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation, the train runs Saturday and Sunday, this weekend and next. Tickets are still available. Check the website for more information.

5. A great holiday light display that benefits a great charity? Say no more. Head to the Winter Wonderland at Portland International Raceway. It's for the benefit of the Portland Police Bureau's Sunshine Division, which provides food and clothing for families and individuals in need. It runs all weekend (actually every day through Christmas). Head to their website for more details.
