Portland 5 Things to Do This Weekend in and Around the City

Cider Fest. Hip Hop Day. Don't Drown. Parke Diem - Spend a day in the park.

1. Parke Diem! Kind of spend the day in the park but it's a two-day celebration of the parks that help make Portland green. The Portland Parks Foundation organizes the two day event in which volunteers fan out to the parks around the city and show them some love - picking up garbage, weeding, raking leaves. Check out www.portlandpf.org for more information.

2. Portland may be the whitest large city in the United States but for the second year in a row the city will be celebrating Portland Hip-Hop Day. Food carts. Music. Really, what more could you want? The event has been moved to Skype Live Studio on Southwest 6th because of the weather. Check out their Facebook page for all the information.

3. What says fall more than cider? Well, hayrides through a pumpkin match... maybe. But cider really is up there so head on over to the Portland Expo Center this weekend - Friday and Saturday - for the Portland City of Cider Festival. www.pdxcityofcider.com for the full schedule.

5. There's a good chance that it might be raining. You need something good that's inside. Maybe you want to bring your pet? The Portland Pet Expo at the Expo Center. All weekend long. Exhibitors. Giveaways. Rescue groups. Adoption groups. Vaccinations. Go to www.portlandpetexpo.com for all the details!

AND SAD NEWS

Given the lousy forecast for Saturday - for real, it's expected to be one of the worst storms the area has seen in a while - the annual giant pumpkin regatta scheduled for Tualatin - has been canceled.
