Portland Artist Completes City's First Prince Mural

Graffiti artist Ashley Montague crafts a beautiful tribute to the legendary musician weeks after his passing.

After a little more than two weeks since legendary musician Prince’s tragic passing, graffiti artist Ashley Montague has put the finishing touches on a mural in his honor.

Located at NE 42nd Avenue and NE Prescott Street, the appropriately purple-centric tribute adorns the entire side of the building behind Motavisi Coffee.

Montague posted the photo of his finished creation on his Facebook page Sunday, with a post that reads “and we all return to the stars in the end…”

It depicts both the artist and purple doves flying above a chain link fence, presumably towards the Heavens. As a commenter on the post pointed out, it is appropriate because Prince’s last album opened with the track “Art Official Cage.”
