Portland Bicycle Parking: The City Wants to Know What's Working, What Isn't

The city recognizes that more needs to be done to help people become bicycle commuters. They hope you help.

Portland recognizes that it's not a perfect world - especially if you commute by bicycle. Not enough space to park your bicycle at work. And, if you live in an apartment building - well, maybe keeping the bicycle in the hallway is an option.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation is reviewing and updating their Bicycle Parking code requirements.

The goal is to "ensure the provision of adequate, comfortable, accessible, an secure bicycle parking for new buildings and major redevelopment" throughout the city.

While there were updates in 2004 - for short-term bicycle parking - and in 2010 - updating the amount of long-term bicycle parking spaces in multi-family dwellings - the bulk of the code was adopted in 1996. Twenty years ago.

PBOT has established a Stakeholder Advisory Committee to help guide the process and they have developed an online survey to get feedback on bicycle parking in apartments.
