Portland City Council Holds Off Changes To Tree Code
The change could have put homeowners in the position of cutting down trees on city land.

The Portland City Council backed off a plan that would have put home owners in the position where they might have been required to cut down trees on city land.
The proposal - first reported by The Oregonian - was one of several city code changes being considered by the council on Wednesday.

It would have made homeowners responsible for problem trees on "adjacent unimproved or partially improved rights-of-way" in addition to what's currently required - "any adjacent sidewalks, planting strips and trees fronting or upon such property."
The paper reported the change was introduced after the Parks Bureau's Urban Forestry Department had told three homeowners they were responsible for maintaining trees on city land more than 50-feet from their homes.
