Portland City Council Protest Leads to Two Arrests
Protesters were upset with Council plans to ratify a new contract with the police union.

Two people were arrested at Portland City Hall when Mayor Charlie Hales asked them to leave and they didn't. They were protesting the city council's plan to ratify a new contract with the police union.
More than three dozen protesters had entered the council chambers and interrupted testimony. They would like the council to hold off voting on the contract, which they say needs more public input, until Ted Wheeler takes office in January.
The mayor - who has previously demonstrated a short fuse when it comes to protests at council meetings - quickly told them that if they did not stay quiet, they would be "excluded."

Moments later, he adjourned the meeting, and two people were arrested: 53-year-old Laura Vanderlyn and 46-year-old David Davis.
By mid-afternoon, Vanderlyn had been released on her own recognizance and Davis was being held on $1,000 bail.

The council will try again next week to address the police contract.
