Portland Fire Investigating Fire That Injured Three - One Critically

Two of the injured are students at Reed College.

A woman remains in critical condition after being injured during a two-alarm fire Sunday. She had to be rescued by firefighters who pulled her from a burning apartment.

Portland Fire & Rescue said that they arrived at Southeast 30th Avenue and Steele Street. They were told that that there had been three people in the apartment and that two had managed to jump from a second-story window.

"Fire crews made a rapid, initial attack on the fire with a simultaneously coordinated search and rescue operation," a spokesman said.

A total of five units were damaged in the fire.

The fire bureau says that the unit where the fire was located is a complete loss. A second unit has approximately 15% damage. The remaining three have damages that have not been estimated yet.

Red Cross responded to assist occupants who were displaced by the fire.
