Portland Fire Rescues Worker Who Fell 40 Feet Below the Street

The rescue took place at the former site of a Chevron station and Oregonian Federal Credit UNion

Dramatic moments in Southwest Portland on Thursday when a construction worker fell 40 feet below the street. The worker had a broken arm and was reported to be conscious.

The worker, a 21-year-old man, had to be rescued by ropes in what the fire bureau called a "confined space rescue"

The incident happened near the intersection of Southwest Columbia and Broadway around 12:30.

It took about one hour to get the man out.

The location used to be home to a Chevron station and credit union.
