Portland Fire: Red Cross Sets up Shelter for Residents Affected by Apartment Fire

Firefighters rescued a woman from the burning building at NW 18th and Lovejoy. Five people were hospitalized.

The Red Cross has set up a shelter for residents displaced by the two-alarm fire that burned at the Royal Arms at Northwest 18th Avenue and Lovejoy Street on Monday morning. Five people were hospitalized.

A woman had to be rescued by ladder from the top floor of the five-story, 65-unit building. A man - who was brought to the hospital in critical condition suffering from smoke inhalation after he jumped from a second-story window.

The fire, which called in around 6:30, went to a second alarm. More than 30 units were called to the scene to battle the fire.
