Those are just a few of the goals of the Annual National Night Out Against Crime happening Tuesday August 2nd.
There will be block parties and cookouts, visits from police officers and firefighters, flashlight walks and youth programs.

There are 67 events planned in Portland alone. from SW 12th and Falcon to Northeast 90th and Hancock to Southeast 64th and Franklin to Northwest 19th and Everett, there are events in all four quadrants of the city. Head here for a complete list.
The event has happened in cities on the first Tuesday of August every year since 1983.
