Portland Police Charge Man With Riot
Police say the charge stems from actions during a protest march.

A man is in jail charged with Riot after Portland Police say that he interfered with a motorist during a protest downtown Thursday night. Nineteen-year-old Zachary Lange was arrested at the end of the march.
The protest, which was to protest the shooting of a man who pulled a replica gun on police officers, had started in the South Park Blocks.

Police say the march, organizers of which had not applied for a permit, then left that area and spread downtown, blocking traffic. They say that there were several heated interactions with drivers who were unable to move in the roadway.
There were also reports of minor vandalism.

Officers waited until the march neared an end to arrest Lange.
Police say that protests generally "do not require any permit from the City of Portland; however, any event held in the street and/or sidewalk, such as runs, walks, marches, parades or bicycle races must have a permit granted by the City of Portland.
"Additionally, event organizers are encouraged to work with the City of Portland to ensure a safe event for participants and non-participants.
