Portland Police: Drunk Driver Busted for Felony Hit and Run

Woman was in the bike lane, waiting to cross when she was hit.

A 23-year-old woman is in serious condition after being struck by a drunk driver as she crossed the street, Portland Police say. She is expected to survive her injuries.

The woman was in the bike lane, getting ready to cross North Interstate Avenue near Schmeer Road when she was hit by a car that kept going. Dispatch received a 911 call from the Arco nearby.

Police later determined that the call came from the driver.

They ended up arresting the driver, 37-year-old Robert William Leary. He is charged with Assault in the Third Degree, Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver (Hit and Run), Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Reckless Driving, and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII).
