Submachine Gun Discovered During Traffic Stop, Portland Police Say
Gang enforcement squad find weapon with 32-round magazine, charge driver of vehicle.
Portland police say an officer seized a Tec-9, a submachine gun favored by street gangs and terrorists, from a car stopped for an unidentified traffic infraction. Officers with the Gang Enforcement Team stopped a dark gray Dodge Charger about 11:10 p.m. on Friday near Southeast 38th Avenue and Hawthorne Street, according to Oregon Live.
During the stop, police say one of the occupants "began acting very nervously.'' They found a Tec-9 with a 32-round magazine and linked the firearm to Andre Montgomery, 27.
Montgomery was arrested and accused of unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm. He has a prior 2012 conviction in Multnomah County for unlawful possession of a firearm.
