Portland Police Issue Citations in Traffic Operation

Operation undertaken after complaints from Union Pacific.

Portland Police, acting on a series of complaints from Union Pacific Railroad, conducted a safety operation in the Central Eastside Industrial District Thursday.

The 2 1/2 hour operation Thursday night resulted in 12 citations to drivers, four to pedestrians, and one warning to pedestrian.

Railroad Police, meanwhile issued 11 citations specifically related to railroad crossing disobedience and other violations.

The operation, which focused on the area from Southeast Stark to Southeast Clinton Streets and Water Avenue to 12th Avenue, was started after Union Pacific complained about drivers and pedestrians not stopping for railroad crossing arms and some pedestrians crossing over and under in front of slow moving rail traffic.
