Portland Police Mourn Death Of Bangladeshi Officer Killed in Terror Attack

He had trained with members of the Bureau. Also, another officer who had been injured in an attack, had been friends with Portland officers.

Showing that terror attacks don't respect borders, members of the Portland Police Bureau are mourning the death of a police officer in Bangladesh.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Rabiul Karim was killed in the terror attack at a cafe in Dhaka last week.

Portland officers are also sending well-wishes to the family and friends of SWAT Sub-Inspector Sujon Kumer Kundu who was critically injured in the attack.

Both had participated in a series of workshops and exercises with Portland Police officers in 2012 offering training on community policing, investigations and leadership.

After the training, Portland officers made a video about the experience.

"These experiences created close friendships and relationships between Portland Police officers and the Bangladesh officers that received training — relationships that still exist today," said Portland Police Spokesman Pete Simpson.

"The Bureau would like to express its deepest sympathies to the officers, families and friends affected by this horrible act of terror."
