Portland Police: Operation Safe Spring Nets 51 Arrests, 17 Guns

That's in just two weeks.

Portland Police arrested 51 people and seized 17 guns during two weeks in April as part of an effort to reduce gang and gun violence.

It was called Operation Safe Spring.

The initiative was undertaken by the Bureau's Gang Enforcement Team along with the Multnomah County Department of Community Justice as well as the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, the United States Attorney's Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

The operation's goal was to reduce gang and gun violence.

In addition to those arrested, parole and probation officers made contact with 105 offenders during the operation.

Officers also served search warrants on 12 people, four homes, and five vehicles. They also searched 236 people, two homes, and 26 vehicles because of probable cause

The 51 people arrested face a variety of weapons and drug charges.

The operation lasted from April 7 through April 20.
