PORTLAND, OR — Falke the Bengal cat was stolen in front of his home on Oct. 21, and thanks to Portland Police, he was reunited with his owner 12 days later. Portland Police Detective Travis Fields, assisted by the Clark County Sheriff's Office, happily returned the furry friend to his owner in the 7500 block of Southwest 49th Avenue Wednesday night, Portland Police announced.

The investigation started at 12:15 p.m. Oct. 21 when police received a report of a stolen cat. A witness told officers that she saw a blue tow truck stop in front of the house. A passenger got out of the truck, chased the cat, grabbed it and got back in the truck, the witness said.

The witness snapped a picture of the tow truck and shared it on social media platforms.

In Oregon, stealing a companion animal is a Class C Felony crime. Portland Police recommend citizens use microchips or GPS collars to help prevent theft. Residents can find additional information on pet licensing lost and found on these two sites: Multnomah County Animal Services and Oregon Humane Society.

Falke rode on the dashboard of the detective's car, instead of in a cardboard box, all the way home. Welcome back Falke.
