Portland Police: Traffic Stop Leads to Weapons Bust

Handgun seized with extended magazine with 29 rounds of ammunition.

Portland Police say that a traffic stop in Southeast Portland led to two arrests and the seizure of a handgun with an extended magazine.

It happened around 10:45 at the intersection of Southeast 89th and Holgate Boulevard.

Police had stopped the car and when they approached it, they noticed a handgun lying at the feet of the passenger's feet.

Both men - 23-year-old Alex Michael Curtis and 29-year-old Dominique James Preston - were arrested without incident.

Curtis, the driver, was charged with cocaine possession, and Preston, the passenger, was charged with a variety of weapons charges as well as a parole violation.

After officers took them into custody, they discovered that the handgun had an extended magazine with 29 rounds of ammunition.

Portland Police say that anyone with information about gun crimes in the City of Portland is encouraged to provide information to the Portland Police Bureau's Tactical Operations Division at 503-823-4106 or email information to gangs@portlandoregon.gov.

Information learned from social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter or YouTube should be shared with investigators as these tips may lead to the identification of a suspect or suspects.

Tips on gun crimes can be emailed to GunTaskForce@portlandoregon.gov.

If you see a gun crime in progress, call 9-1-1.
