Portland Protests: New Week Brings More Marches
Students from schools around the region walk out of class to join protests downtown where they run into other marches and vigils.
Hundreds of high school and college students walked out of class Monday to gather in downtown Portland as the seventh day of marches and protests against the presidency of Donald Trump got underway.
The group started gathering around 10:00 Monday morning at Pioneer Courthouse Square and started marching about 11:00.
They stopped at City Hall where they ran into a vigil for the man who was shot during protests on Friday night.

They then headed across the Hawthorne Bridge where some students started climbing the bridge before being coaxed down. Police Officers did try to stop them though that was unsuccessful.
Once on the East Side, they headed to Benson High School where they chanted "Walk Out! Walk out!"

Many did and they were greeted by cheers.
Earlier in the day, Portland Public Schools sent a note to parents letting them know of the planned walk out and suggesting that it was a bad idea.
"Portland Public Schools recognizes the right of students to demonstrate regarding their beliefs and concerns," parents were told. "However, we believe that the safest place for students is in school engaged in their classes.
"Please be aware that high school students who do choose to walk out will receive an unexcused absence."
