Dear PPS Families and Staff,

Because of dangerous heat, we are canceling all athletic activities, including practices, workouts and other gatherings, for all Portland Public Schools teams and athletes for Wednesday, August 11.

We are following the heat index policy of the Oregon School Activities Association. The policy calls for all outdoor activities to be halted, and indoor activities to be stopped in buildings without sufficient air conditioning, if the heat index hits 105 degrees or higher. According to the OSAA’s heat index calculator, which factors temperature and humidity, the forecasted heat index for Wednesday is 127 degrees (99 degrees, 61% humidity).

Please know that the safety of our student athletes is our top priority. We will update you about Thursday and Friday, but because of the forecast, we anticipate canceling activities for those days, too.

Please stay safe.
