Trip to San Jose not a great one for the defending champs

It had to end eventually.

The Portland Timbers had not lost since October 3, 2015.

Since then, they had gone unbeaten in 10 straight games, a streak that included winning the national championship.

But on Sunday, as they say, all things must come to an end.

And for the Timbers it was a 2-1 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes. It was the Earthquakes first victory against the Timbers in six matches.

The Timbers lone goal came in the 89th minute from Jack Mcinnerney, whom they acquired in January.

Portland next plays Saturday when they host Real Salt Lake.
