Portland Traffic Alert: Bridge Closures Will Cause Disruptions

Brief closures coming this weekend for both the Hawthorne and Sellwood Bridges. Here's what you need to know.

Multnomah County wants you to know that if you take the Hawthorne and Sellwood Bridges, there are some closures coming up that could disrupt your routine.

The Hawthorne will be closed to motor vehicle traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday May 21 and 22.

Workers will be replacing a cable that helps provide power to the bridge.

River traffic will be unaffected.

Meanwhile, the Sellwood will close at 6 a.m. Friday and stay closed until as late as 6 a.m. Saturday.

Workers will be installing concrete girders and the project will impact motor vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.

Highway 43 will remain open to two-way traffic at all times. The posted westbound detour routes for motor vehicles are:

  • Northbound: Hwy. 99E (McLoughlin Blvd.) to Ross Island Bridge to Hwy. 43
  • Southbound: Hwy. 99E to Interstate 205 (Abernethy Bridge at Oregon City) to Hwy. 43
  • Eastbound routes are the reverse. Alternate crossings for bicyclists and pedestrians include the Hawthorne and Ross Island bridges. The bridge will reopen to traffic as soon as work is completed.
