Portland Wants to Know How to Reach You if there is an Emergency

Earthquakes. Volcanoes. Tsunamis.

Those are just some of the big, bad things that could happen.

But there's a lot more every day things that can wrong that you need to know about that can affect your day.

This includes road closures, fires, pothole repairs, power outages, big storms coming in, transit alerts, health problems.

The list goes on.

This where PublicAlerts comes in.

Started in 2011, the system is used by Portland, Multnomah County, Washington County, and Clackamas County, among others, to let residents know when there is an emergency that affects them.

The system is available in 10 languages.

When you do, they say, make sure to indicate whether you babe additional needs - whether you are hearing or visually impaired, whether you have mobility issues.
