Portland Weather: It's Hot and the Parks Department Wants to Help You Cool Off

Fountains are opening early.

With record temperatures on the radar, the Portland Parks and Recreation Department is looking to help you cool off.

Fountains often not open until Memorial Day are open as of today.

Four interactive fountains - fountains where you can play in the water - are open:

  • Bill Naito Legacy Fountain (by Saturday Market, just south of the Burnside Bridge in Waterfront Park)
  • Director Park’s Teacher’s Fountain
  • Salmon Springs Fountain (Waterfront Park and SW Salmon St, in photo!)
  • Jamison Square’s popular water feature

All fountains in the city will be up and running by Memorial Day Weekend and many will be operational by May 1.

The parks department says that the splash pads in parks won't be on until the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend because those systems follow a set maintenance schedule.
