Portland's Trader Vic's Has Last Call
Fire damage on top of the simple cost of doing business proves to be too much

As the restaurant had posted on March 2, they had suffered damage from a fire in a medical office above them.
In a follow-up post, DuPre wrote that while they originally planned to re-open next week, they soon realized that it would be "at least eight weeks to open the doors again.

"During that time, the owner decided to close the doors. The restaurant was very expensive to keep above water, and had never turned a profit in 4.5 years."
DuPre wrote the rent was $20,000 each month, leasing the Trader Vic's logo was $6,000 each month.
And, at 8,000 square feet, "the place was just too big."
Trader Vic's had been at the Benson Hotel for nearly 40 years before closing in 1996.
It reopened in Portland at its current location in 2011.
A message on the restaurant's answering machine just says that due to a fire in a neighboring office, they are closed until further notice.
While the chain, founded in California in the 1930s, once had locations throughout the United States, the loss of the Portland location leaves them with just Atlanta and San Francisco.
They also have locations around the world.
