Fugitive Arrested in #OregonStandoff Case Ordered Held

Judge rejects plea to allow Jake Ryan to return to Montana.

A Federal Judge in Portland ordered Jake Ryan be detained after he was arrested as a fugitive, found living as a squatter in Clark County, armed with weapons.

Ryan, who was indicted earlier this year in connection with armed takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, was found in a cabin in Clark County and turned over the F.B.I.

Ryan is one of 27 people indicted in connection with the takeover of the refuge.

His court-appointed lawyer argued that Ryan should be allowed to return to his parents's home in Montana.

The lawyer said that the local sheriff in Montana supports the plan and even said he would personally track down Ryan if there was a problem.

The prosecutor suggested that offer should be treated skeptically, saying the sheriff has not been "entirely cooperative with federal law enforcement."

The judge decided that Ryan would continue to stay behind bars for now.
