The top stories for Portland

  • People took to the streets on the one year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd. Some of the protesters broke windows and lit fires and the police declared an unlawful assembly. (FOX 12 News)
  • The City of Portland has been in negotiations with the Portland Police Association for over 4 months regarding their collective bargaining agreement, with the public looking on with interest. But that may change in 17 days when those negotiations may take place behind closed doors, due to state labor laws that allow for private mediation. (Willamette Week)
  • The defacement of Clackamas High School is being considered a hate crime. On Monday, the principal found the front doors plastered with Donald Trump stickers and beans. The beans are thought to be intended as derogatory to Latinx people. (The Skanner)
  • Multnomah County is moving to “Low Risk” status, which means restaurants and fitness centers can open up to half capacity. This will put a total of 18 Oregon counties in the “Low Risk” category, but 15 are still considered “High Risk” Yikes! (KXL 101 FM)
  • A new Portland ride share service will be in town soon, catering primarily to women, femmes and non-binary passengers. The service, Go Girl Ride, is focused on safety and does so through an extensive vetting process for its drivers. (FOX 12 News)

  • If you're a Trail Blazers fan, game 3 of the play-offs is tonight at 7:30. They're tied with the Denver Nuggets, 1-1. Go get'em Blazers!
  • The Polka Dot music series continues in Pioneer Courthouse Square with Blues guitarist, Ben Rice. Blues not your thing? The Portland Opera will be performing on the dots at Keller Auditorium. Both performances start at noon.
  • If Jazz is more your thing, Gunhild Carling is performing at The Jack London Review tonight at 9:00 PM. Hailing from Sweden, she does jazz covers of pop songs, a la Postmodern Jukebox. Tickets are required.
  • With Portland moving into lower risk territory, we’re seeing more live performances. Why not check out Starting Point at the Big Legrowlski. This one looks like it’s got a little bit of everything. Plus beer! Seating is outside, socially distanced and heated. 8:15 PM

  • The Portland Pride Parade was canceled last year due to COVID-19, but now it’s back. Kind of. Now it’s virtual, with multiple events streaming online. There will also be a mural unveiling and a Portland Pride TV Special from KOIN 6. Check out what Portland Monthly has to say about these events here.
  • If you’re a game show fan, don’t miss Jeopardy that has Portland librarian, Veronica Vichit-Vadakan. Last week, she became a semi-finalist in Jeopardy’s Tournament of Champions. The finals are set to air later this week. (KATU)
