SE 20th Ave To Close Between Stark & Burnside Beginning Jan 8

The closure, which could last 30 days, will allow Environmental Services crews to replace aging sewer pipe.

PORTLAND, OR — The Bureau of Environmental Services will close Southeast 20th Avenue between Southeast Stark and East Burnside streets beginning Monday, Jan. 8. The closure, which is due to sewer construction, could last up to 30 days, city officials said.

While sidewalks will remain open and local access will be allowed, through traffic, including bicycles, will be detoured to Southeast 28th Avenue — roughly one quarter mile east.

The closure will allow work crews to install 240 feet of sewer pipe between Southeast Pine and Southeast Oak streets, officials said. The current pipe is said to be 115 years old and at-risk for breaks, which could lead to sink holes and sewage spills into homes and businesses.
