Sergeant Recovering After Chase
Police say that James Gallaway assaulted the sergeant after leading him on a chase.

A Portland Police sergeant is recovering after being assaulted Tuesday morning by a man who led him on a chase. James Gallaway is charged with assaulting an officer, felon in possession of a loaded firearm, and trespass.
Police say it was just after midnight when the sergeant stopped Gallaway by Southeast 82nd Avenue and Tolman Street for driving his motorcycle recklessly. The sergeant ran the plates and discovered the motorcycle had been stolen.
Gallaway then fled on foot, pursued by the sergeant and other officers, police say. The sergeant caught up with Gallaway, who allegedly struck him in the face. During a struggle, the sergeant realized that Gallaway - who managed to break free - had a gun.
