Smoking While Using Oxygen Causes Trailer Fire

The 70-year-old man who lived in the trailer was taken to the hospital.

A man smoking while on oxygen therapy accidentally started a fire in his trailer early Thursday morning. The man was taken to the hospital.

Portland Fire & Rescue responded to 7409 SE 82nd Avenue around 9:15 a.m. and found smoke coming from every opening in the trailer.

As they started putting water on the fire, an electrical line burned and fell on to the trailer, causing a danger of electrocution.

The resident of the trailer had been inside when the fire started and tried to put it out. He quickly recognized the fire was becoming too big and made it out with the help of a neighbor.

Portland Fire recommends that anyone on or living with someone on home oxygen to not smoke. Please watch this video which was created in July, 2013:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDLIyjwtNrg
