Find out what's going on around town with your daily Portland Patch!

It's Friday! And you know how much I love Fridays. Just about as much as Garfield hates Mondays, though I've never figured out why a cat would care. Oh, well, such are the mysteries of the universe. It'll probably be easier if I just tell you about today.
First, today's weather:
Rain! So much rain! And it'll be a chilly one with a high temp of 56. At least we missed the worst of the bomb cyclone.

Here are the top stories today in Portland:
- Several Portland statues were toppled during the 2020 protests and the group responsible for managing Portland’s public art collection has recommended that they not be reinstalled. What should be done? Commissioner Carmen Rubio announced this week that she plans to let the public decide. As part of the fall budget process, Rubio is expected to ask her colleagues on the city council for money dedicated to a “community engagement process” that examines what to do with the five statues that were taken down last year. (OPB)
- With the holiday season approaching and parties being planned, I've got some bad news for those hoping to serve adult beverages. A glass bottle shortage is hitting Oregon distilleries and wineries creating unwanted delays in stocking shelves. (KGW)
- Portland has been dealing with an ever growing crisis over those experiencing houselessness and it might be driving Mayor Ted Wheeler to look at some extreme solutions. Up for consideration: banning homeless camping from areas of downtown Portland — and moving those campers into a "high-population outdoor camping zone." City Commissioner Dan Ryan disagrees and says such a move would be a disaster. (Portland Mercury)
- The election to choose Oregon’s next governor is still more than a year away, but the crowd of candidates is already more than a dozen. So far, nine Republicans and six Democrats have filed to run in next May’s primary election. More candidates are expected to file in the future. (KATU)
- In light of the supply chain crisis that is affecting the nation, the Port of Portland is busier than ever. Port of Portland Chief Operating Officer, Dan Pippenger says, "Portland plays a role in providing relief and support that allows people to get around that and certainly is a benefit to our local economy." (KPTV)

- There's no doubt about it, Portland is a city that runs on coffee. But if you're getting tired of the old standbys, like Stumptown Coffee Roasters or Coava, here are some new coffee shops to get you nice and jittery. (Portland Monthly)
- Can't get enough of Halloween? Me too, which is why I appreciate the fine folks at KGW compiling a list of all the Portland-area, spooky time activities. Give them a look-see, you're bound to find something to send a delightful chill up your spine. (KGW)

- One of the things I love about Portland is all the great artists that call this place home. Evidently, I'm not alone in this. Last year, Andi Kovel and Justin Parker, the owners of Esque Studio, competed on the Netflix show "Blown Away" and got the attention of a much wider audience. (OPB)
