Teacher In-Service Day Will Bring Change In Meal Service Next Week In Portland Public Schools

Meals will be available during the usual 3-5 p.m. time slot outside the 38 schools that serve as our meal sites.

As we move into October, we wanted to remind you that next Friday, October 9, is the annual statewide in-service day for teachers in Oregon. That means there will be no classes, and schools will be closed that day.

For that reason, we are condensing our meal service for the week. We will still offer seven days’ worth of breakfast and lunch, but instead of the usual Monday-Wednesday-Friday meal distribution, our service will be:

  • Monday, October 5: Meals to cover three days
  • Wednesday, October 7: Meals to cover four days

Meals will be available during the usual 3-5 p.m. time slot outside the 38 schools that serve as our meal sites. You can see the full list of sites at our Fall 2020 Meals webpage. As we announced last week, meals are currently free for PPS students and all children ages 1-18 under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) program.

Meal service will return to Monday-Wednesday-Friday the following week.
