Three Northeast Portland Bars Robbed At Gunpoint Early Monday, Police Said

The Greeley Avenue Bar, the Sandy Hut, and The Hilt were all robbed between 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. July 10, police said.

PORTLAND, OR — A string of tavern robberies early Monday is being investigated by Portland police, but whether the three separate incidents are related or were perpetrated by the same individuals is unknown at this time, according to police officials.

Three bars — the Greeley Avenue Bar, the Sandy Hut, and The Hilt — were all robbed at gunpoint between 12 a.m. to and 3 a.m. July 10, police said. In all three robberies, witnesses described the suspects as black males armed with handguns. And though suspect descriptions and methods of robbery are similar in all cases, detectives have not confirmed the three robberies are connected to each other or any other robberies reported recently, police said.

The first robbery was reported shortly after 12:45 a.m. at the Greeley Avenue Bar, located at 5421 N. Greeley Ave. According to police, witnesses said two black men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, demanded money, wallets, and cell phones from bar patrons before leaving the premises. No one was injured during the robbery, police said.

The second robbery was reported just after 2 a.m. at the Sandy Hut, 1430 N.E. Sandy Blvd.

Sandy Hut patrons and employees told officers that one black male entered the bar, armed with a handgun, and began demanding money, police said. A bouncer at the bar intervened and caused the robbery suspect to flee east on Northeast Couch Street, where we was reportedly seen running with another black male, police said.

The third and final robbery occurred just before 2:30 a.m. at The Hilt, 1934 N.E. Alberta St. Once again, police said, patrons and employees told officers that two black males, both of whom were armed with handguns, demanded money, wallets, and cell phones before leaving without harming anyone.
