Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest, Recovery of Stolen Handbags

Dozens of new handbags with the price tags on were recovered.

A traffic stop early Monday morning led to the recovery of dozens of stolen handbags with their price tags still on and the arrest of a man on theft charges.

Portland Police say that around 3:19 a.m., officers from the East Precinct stopped a car on the 9200 block of Southeast Stark Street for traffic violations.

After speak with the driver - 46-year-old Bradley Gene Gallagher - they searched his car and discovered around 60 brand new handbags with the price tags still attached. A Google search led officers to the Appetite Shop.

The owner told them that the bags had been left in a van after a craft fair and were stolen from there.

The bags were returned to the owner of the shop.

Gallagher is charged with theft.
