  1. If you ride Tri-Met to get around Portland, you may want to check your latest bus schedule. In their efforts to improve public transportation, they've created some new bus routes and eliminated others. People who ride Lines 11, 15, 19, 32, 39, 93, and 94 should check their bus schedules for any changes. (KATU)
  2. PeaceHealth, a Pacific Northwest hospital system, announced a vaccine mandate for their workers, effective Sept. 1st, and many of those employees are now suing. Kaiser Permanente and Legacy Health, two other large Northwest health care systems, announced COVID-19 vaccination requirements similar to PeaceHealth, but set their deadline for the end of September. (OPB)
  3. Good news for Oregon winemakers! The European Union has announced that wines produced in the Willamette Valley will receive new protection under its Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) program. (KOIN)
  4. Gun fire erupted in one of Portland's most prominent neighborhoods over the weekend. A physical fight broke out at the restaurant Everybody Eats at NW 10th Ave and NW Davis, which escalated when shots were fired. Three people were shot, and transported to area hospitals. Authorities said the injuries are not life-threatening. (KPTV)
  5. While it comes months after a record-breaking heatwave, Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield Oregon is donating free air conditioning units to help keep vulnerable people cool. To get a free unit, you need to be a Medicare Advantage member. Regence is reaching out to those who qualify. With winter coming on, they are also considering ways that they can address those who may not have enough heat. (KGW)

Today in Portland:

  • We can talk about birds migrating, but what does that actually mean? If you're curious, then the Portland Audubon has a class for you. In this 1-hour, online course you'll learn about the basics of migration and ways that you can observe this fascinating process, focusing on specific groups of birds, with strategies for observing their transit, along with an exploration of where they’re coming from, and where they’re headed. Register online. 6:00 - 7:00 PM.
  • Pacific-Northwest-based, indie-alternative musical group Obscurely will be playing tonight at downtown Portland spot Kelly's Olympian. Joining them will be Jackie Deville and Jermaine. Tickets are $5 online or $7 at the door. Doors open at 7:30 PM.
  • For a fun and exciting movie-going experience, plan a visit to the Hollywood Theater in NE Portland for B-Movie Bingo. It's bingo to the most awesome movie clichés ever committed to celluloid, like “long boring scene or male ponytail," "teamed up with rookie or animal," and "white suit or tropical ending.” Tonight's feature is Cyborg Cop. Dr. Kessel is on the verge of creating a high-tech cyborg warrior, but they picked the wrong man! COVID precautions will be in effect. Get your tickets online. 7:30 PM.
  • There will be laughs aplenty at SE Portland club Holocene, as they present Atsuko Okatsuka: hi. Atsuko Okatsuka is a comedian, writer, and actor who Vulture and TimeOut LA have called a comic to watch. She has written for various Adult Swim shows such as Soft Focus with Jena Friedman and The Eric Andre Show. Get your tickets online. Doors at 7:00 PM.
  • The Portland DSA Ecosocialist Work Group is having a picnic at Laurelhurst Park in SE Portland. It's potluck, so they ask that you bring a dish to share. This is an opportunity to socialize with fellow ecosocialists and hang in-person! 6:00 - 8:30 PM.

  • Portland Art Museum: "Labor Day weekend often represents an end to summertime vacations, but let’s hang on to that energy just a little bit longer through our writing this week. This painting by avant-garde artist and educator Maude Kerns carries the feeling ..." (Instagram)
  • When I first moved to Portland over 20 years ago, Tri-Met is definitely one of the things that helped me fall in love with this city. It was reliable and extensive enough that I was able to get rid of my car and I've never looked back. This post is to wish them a big old Happy Birthday as the MAX light rail celebrates its 30th anniversary! I hope you'll be around for at least another 30 more. (Tri-Met)
  • While it's changed dramatically over the years, Portland's Albina neighborhood used to be home to multiple Black-owned music venues that hosted national touring acts and supported a bustling local music scene featuring dozens of soul, jazz, funk and R&B bands. Now, an ambitious new self-guided audio tour of Albina aims to chronicle the heyday of that music scene and its untimely demise. (OPB)
  • COVID has cancelled many an event, so it's no surprise that Swan Island Dahlias in Canby has cancelled its 2021 Indoor Display. But it isn't going to let a little thing like the pandemic spoil the fun. A non-traditional Annual Dahlia Festival will take place during the month of September. There will be flower arranging classes, a farmers market, food carts and more. Check out the website for a list of events. (Dahlias)

Is that everything? Probably not. This is Portland, after all, and I'm sure I've missed a few things.
