Two Arrested, Shotgun Seized in Kelly Butte Gunfire Investigation: Police

Portland police say they received "multiple reports" of gunfire in the area.

PORTLAND, OR – Portland police said Tuesday they arrested two men in connection to a shooting investigation.

According to Portland Police Sgt. Pete Simpson, officers from the East Precinct headed out to the area of Southeast 110th Avenue and Tibbetts Street upon receiving "multiple reports of gunfire" just after 11 p.m. Monday.

"Officers arrived in the area and observed several people leaving the wooded area," Simpson said in a news release.

While leaving, one of those people apparently tossed a bag into the woods, but police later recovered it and found a "pistol grip shotgun and spent shotgun shell" inside, according to Simpson. That person was later identified as 19-year-old Ronald David Nelson, who was arrested.
