Two Charged in Connection with Portland Riot

Police say they received several tips identifying the suspects. The investigation continues.

Portland Police have arrested two people in connection with riot in Portland over the weekend. More than 100 people had been arrested during the protests but many saw initial charges dropped while the investigation continues.

On Sunday, police arrested 19-year-old Damaree Mitchell on an outstanding warrant. While she was in jail they also cited her for reckless burning and disorderly conduct in connection with the riot.

Then, on Tuesday, police arrested 20-year-old Mateen Abdul Shaheed at his home in Estacada and charged him with six counts of criminal mischief in connection with the riot.

Police say that he was involved "in numerous acts of vandalism" including damaging vehicles at the Broadway Toyota.

Nineteen cars were damaged in the riot. The damage was estimated at $250,000.

Detectives received an overwhelming number of tips from the community after photos of the then-unknown suspect to the Bureau's "CanYouIDMe" page, http://www.portlandoregon.gov/police/canyouidme/
