Vera Katz Statue Vandalized with Nazi Symbol

The statue of former Portland Mayor Vera Katz was vandalized by someone who sprayed a swastika on her with orange paint. The vandalism was noticed by someone out for a run along the East Bank Esplanade where the statue is located.

In addition to the swastika, the person spray painted her hair orange.

Nearby someone wrote "Vera wants affordable housing" though it's not clear if the two are connected.

By mid-afternoon, the vandalism - which was first reported by the Portland Business Journal after a reporter noticed the picture on Facebook - had been cleaned up.
