Weekend-Long Festivals Galore: 5 Things To Do In The Metro Region This Weekend

Cultural festivals, a sci-fi film fest, and a whole day of tasting beer await those who want to get out of the house this weekend.

The Portland metro will buzz with festivals galore this weekend. From Friday to Sunday and beyond, folks will have no shortage of events for families and adults to enjoy. Art shows, a sci-fi film fest, and a whole day of tasting beer await those who want to get out of the house this weekend.

TUALATIN —

The city's 23rd annual ArtSplash Art Show and Sale begins Friday at 12 p.m. and continues through Sunday, July 23, at Tualatin Lake of the Commons, located at 8325 S.W. Nyberg St. More than 50 Pacific Northwest artists will have their talents on full display for the community to peruse. From watercolors and acrylics to photography and ceramics, the event will showcase multimedia art forms for the whole family to enjoy. Visit the show's website for a full schedule of events, which also include plenty of interactive activities for kids and teens. Food vendors will also be on hand at this free event.

PORTLAND —

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) on Friday kicked off its 16-day sci-fi film festival, beginning at 6 p.m. with John Carpenter's The Thing (1982). The festival runs through Aug. 5 with at least one film screening per day. Individual show tickets are available, starting at $7 for adults and $6 for youth (3-13) and seniors age 63 and older. OMSI members receive $1 off. Passes for the entire festival are also available, starting at $35 for adults and $30 for youth and seniors. Twenty-one films will be shown over the 16-day period on OMSI's four-story theater screen.

BEAVERTON —

For the third year running, Beaverton will host the first of two international Night Markets Saturday, July 22, at The Round, 12600 S.W. Crescent St. The market will be open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and promises to offer a variety of food, music, and art and crafts from multiple cultures from around the world. OREGON CITY —

The Oregon Trail Brew Fest returns for the second year to Oregon City Saturday, July 22, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Main Street downtown. Tickets to enter begin at $20 and cover 10 drink tokens and a commemorative glass. The festival will showcase breweries from Missouri, Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho, and Oregon, and offer a historical experience for anyone who's never visited Oregon City, the seat of Clackamas County.

PORTLAND —

World Refugee Day is at Portland's Delta Park, located at 10850 N. Denver Ave., from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 22. Honoring the strength and resilience of refugees from around the world, the event specifically hopes to show Oregonians all that refugees to our area have to offer our communities. Music, dancing, soccer, and guest speakers will highlight an afternoon of food and market shopping. The event is free for all ages, though organizers request school supply donations for refugee children in the Portland area.
