West Hills Home Gutted by Fire

No one was home and the house was for sale.

A 6,000-square foot home in the West Hills was destroyed by a raging fire Thursday morning. Firefighters arrived just before 6:00 after several calls to 9-1-1.

But there was nothing they could do to save the structure.

One of the callers to 9-1-1 was the property owner who told dispatch that no one was home - he had been staying with a friend nearby. The house, half of which was on fire when the owner got there, had been for sale.

Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue arrived at the house on the 13000 block of NW Germantown Road to find the home fully engulfed and immediately called in a second alarm.

TVF&R said the fire provided several challenges including a long, narrow driveway, thick trees and brush, and no hydrant in the immediate area.

The firefighters worked hard to make sure that embers did not cause the fire to spread via the trees and brush.

TVF&R was assisted by Portland Fire and Rescue, Hillsboro Fire, Portland Police, and the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
