Woman Accused Of Driving Drunk, Hitting Man In Wheelchair

Police say that Tami Stein as driving along Hawthorne around midnight Saturday.

A 55-year-old woman without a previous record in Oregon was arrested over the weekend and charged with driving drunk and striking a man in a wheelchair. It happened at Southeast 39th Avenue and Hawthorne Boulevard.

Portland Police say that Tami Stein was driving her 2002 Toyota Tacoma when she struck a 36-year-old man in a wheelchair. He was brought to a local hospital with serious injuries. The man, whose name has not been released, was in the crosswalk at the time.

Stein was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) and Reckless Driving and booked into the Multnomah County Jail before being released.
