You Snooze, You Lose: Man Asleep in Car Busted on Drug, Weapons Charges

Police say Adam Coopersmith had handguns and heroin.

The early bird may get the worm but the sleeping felon gets cuffed.

Just after midnight Thursday, Portland Police approached a man asleep in a car at Southeast 122nd Avenue and Reedway Street after passersby called 9-1-1.

Police say that based on what officers saw in the car, they determined that the driver has likely ingested illegal narcotics.

They asked the man - later identified as 32-year-old Adam Joseph Coopersmith - to get out of the car, which he did, giving the officers permission to search the car.

They found two loaded handguns, several loaded magazine, about $2,500 cash, around 25 grams of heroin. Police say other evidence indicated Coopersmith is involved in drug trafficking.

He's charged with delivery of heroin, posssession of heroin and weapons charges.
