1. New Downtown Salem Parking App Now Available (kykn.com) — Salem drivers now need to switch to the new Beep Beep Salem parking app, which replaces the old version by December 31 and works at all downtown meters and the airport. The city also reminds downtown residents, workers, students, and jurors about required permits or meter payment between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., while keeping parking garages free for customers and visitors.
2. Oregon extends its wildfire emergency order and bulletin (elkhornmediagroup.com) — Announced from Salem's Division of Financial Regulation has extended its wildfire emergency order through Oct. 29, requiring insurers in affected areas to pause cancellations, allow payment grace periods, and give policyholders more time to file claims. Residents with fire damage are urged to contact their insurers first, then reach out to DFR's consumer advocates if they still need help navigating coverage.
3. Oregon GOP PAC hires same group Elon Musk used to canvass across swing districts • Oregon Capital Chronicle (oregoncapitalchronicle.com) — A major Republican PAC is pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into canvassing for Oregon legislative races, including support for Salem Rep. Kevin Mannix. The group hired the same controversial firm previously used by Elon Musk, aiming to flip closely divided districts and narrow Democratic control of the Legislature in November.
4. State commission calls for billions more as Oregon lawmakers weigh funding, accountability (kpic.com) — From Salem, state education leaders say Oregon schools need up to $5 billion more over the next two years to maintain services and meet new goals in reading, math, and attendance. Lawmakers will debate in 2027 whether to boost K–12 funding or overhaul the system, decisions that will directly shape class sizes, staffing, and support in Salem-area schools.
