After nearly four decades serving generations of customers, Sid Stevens Jewelers is closing so the owners can retire.

“Business is still good, but we want to spend more time with our family and grandkids,” said Stevens, a fifth-generation jeweler who opened the Albany store with his wife, Susan, in 1986. “It’s bittersweet because we’re going to miss our customers.”

A storewide going-out-of-business sale features up to 70 percent off merchandise, including significant markdowns on diamond earrings, bridal jewelry and colored gemstone jewelry.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to get beautiful, high-quality jewelry at a fantastic price,” he said.

At age 12, Sid Stevens began working at his family's jewelry shop, Stevens & Son Jewelers, in Albany. “My dad was a watch repairman, and my brother was the store’s owner,” he said. “We have five generations of jewelers in our family.”

Another familiar face in the store is Susan Stevens, who has worked with her husband since the beginning. “She’s invaluable,” Sid Stevens said. “She handles the inventory, all the bookkeeping—everything that keeps the store running smoothly. I can’t emphasize enough how much she’s contributed to our success.”

The couple expressed gratitude as they prepare to close Sid Stevens Jewelers for good. “I'm grateful for my wife, our dedicated staff and our customers who trusted us to help celebrate their most meaningful moments," he said.
