HAM RADIO FIELD DAY Exercise Coming to Newport --OPEN to Public June 27th, 1 PM to 5 PM--OCCC---Amateur Radio offers Answers when "During disasters or a communications outage, cell phones and cell towers are often no longer functional and satellite coverage will likely be overwhelmed."
Members of the Lincoln County Amateur Radio Club and Lincoln County’s Auxiliary Communications Service will be participating in the national Amateur Radio Field Day exercise, June 27-28, 2026
For more than 100 years, Amateur Radio, also called ‘ham radio’ has been there when other forms of communication have failed. Field Day demonstrates ham radio’s ability to work reliably under any conditions from almost any location and create an independent communications network. During disasters or a communications outage, cell phones and cell towers are often no longer functional and satellite coverage will likely be overwhelmed. Ham radios can be set up almost anywhere in a matter of minutes. Licensed operators can literally throw a wire in a tree for an antenna, connect it to a battery-powered transmitter, and communicate locally or halfway around the world
This year the LCARC/ACS Field Day set up location will be in the parking lot at Oregon Coast Community College in Newport and will be open to the public on Saturday June 27 from 1pm to 5pm.
