Outlaws cross-country has new head coach (nuggetnews.com) — Sisters High School's Outlaws cross-country team is starting the 2026 season under new head coach Sam May, a 2021 SHS graduate and former standout runner. He's emphasizing intentional, fun practices and sees strong potential in both the boys and girls squads as they adjust to a new, far-flung Special District and aim to build on last year's district and state results.
2. Music, Community & Discovery Await at the 29th Annual Sisters Folk Festival (cascadeae.com) — Downtown Sisters will soon be packed with music as the 29th Sisters Folk Festival brings 33 folk, Americana, and roots acts to seven local venues September 25–27. Families can enjoy free KidZone activities and a Sunday Community Celebration, while a new executive director aims to grow the festival's role in Sisters' cultural life.
3. Traffic stop near Sisters leads to fentanyl seizure and arrest of Bend resident (elkhornmediagroup.com) — A month-long narcotics investigation ended with a late-night traffic stop near Sisters, where deputies arrested a Bend resident and seized a commercial quantity of fentanyl. The Central Oregon Drug Enforcement team coordinated with Deschutes County deputies at U.S. Highway 20 and Indian Ford Road, underscoring ongoing regional efforts to disrupt drug trafficking around Sisters.
4. Oregon motorcyclist sets out on 70,000-mile trip around the world (rv-times.com) — A man who grew up in Sisters, Eli Callan, has just left his parents' home near Sunriver to begin a two-year, 70,000-mile motorcycle trip through more than 60 countries. Now a Bend-based geologist, he spent years planning a route that will span Africa, Central Asia, Tibet, Australia, and the Americas, and will share periodic dispatches from the road.
