Election guidelines require that each candidate submit a pre-approved petition that includes at least 20 signatures from registered voters residing within city limits. Additionally, candidates may need to submit a contribution and expenditure report to the Secretary of State.

All petition signatures must be verified by the City Recorder.

Candidates are encouraged to obtain more than the required 20 to ensure that a sufficient number are valid. Signatures are invalid if a person is not a registered voter, has recently moved to the community and did not re-register, or lives outside the City limits.

The City's Aug. 20 deadline ensures that the City Recorder has adequate time to verify signatures and provide candidates an opportunity to correct or obtain additional signatures before the State of Oregon’s Aug. 28 filing deadline.
