Clackamas County Roads: Most Commission Candidates Agree on Fixes

Wilsonville Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored forum provides candidates a chance to share thoughts on the issue.

Most of the candidates for the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners support a $25 vehicle registration fee to help pay for upgrading the county's 1,400 miles of of roads.

More than half are rated poor to fair.

That was one of the takeaways from a forum sponsored by the Wilsonville Area Chamber of Commerce, according to a write-up in The Portland Tribune.

Most also suport widening the 5.9 mile stretch of I-205 from the George Abernathy Bridge in Oregon City to Stafford Road outside of Lake Oswego.

According to the paper, candidates were asked what specific steps they would support in the next five years to relieve auto and freight congestion, and whether and how the county should raise new funding sources for road work.

When Clackamas County residents vote on May 17th, they will not only be voting for the county commission candidates, they will also vote on whether the county should pursue funding for fixes to the county's roads.
