Wilsonville Residents Get Parking Relief

New program will allow residents to petition the city to create special parking zones.

It's no secret that Wilsonville is a growing city with thousands of people moving and thousands more on their way. And they all seemed to have brought their cars. Often more than one. And that creates a parking problem.

So, the City of Wilsonville is doing something about it.

The city council has given its final approval to a new program that should bring some relief.

The program will allow residents of the community who live in a residential area that's heavily congested with on-street parking to ask the council to create special residential parking zone.

That would mean the area is restricted to people with permanent permits or visitors who can get temporary permits for specific hours.

The city says that the new program seeks to decrease parking congestion and address safety concerns, reduce parking violations and improve neighborhood access for emergency, waste-management and postal-service vehicles.

It goes in effect in 30 days.
