Wilsonville's Boeckman Road To Be Closed For Two Weeks

Construction on Boeckman Road east of Southwest Canyon Creek Road will begin June 3.

WILSONVILLE, OR — Beginning this week, Boeckman Road will be closed for two weeks while crews complete more construction projects related to the installation of the new Meridian Creek Middle School in east Wilsonville.

From Saturday, June 3, to Saturday, June 17, nearly one mile of Boeckman Road between Southwest Canyon Creek Road and the Boeckman-Stafford-Advance-Wilsonville roads intersection will be closed to through traffic. Local residential access will be maintained, but with expected delays. All other commuters traveling north on Southwest Wilsonville Road will be detoured to Southwest Stafford Road/Meridian Road to Southwest Elligsen Road.

Advance Road east of the Boeckman-Stafford-Advance-Wilsonville roads intersection was closed for three weeks while crews reconstructed the area in front of where the new school is located — in what was formerly an empty field between Southwest 60th Avenue and Southwest Wilsonville Road.

At the four-road intersection a new traffic signal will be installed to accommodate the expected increase in traffic, according to Steve Adams, the development engineering manager for the city. At the intersection, Adams said, all four roads will have a left-turn lane installed, with Boeckman Road additionally receiving a center through lane to Advance Road and a right-turn lane toward Wilsonville Road. From the intersection to Southwest Canyon Creek Road, the Southside of Boeckman Road will receive a new bike lane, and all the gaps in the sidewalk there will be filled in, Adams said.

The new school and road construction were conceived along with planned residential development in the Frog Pond area, Adams said. Over the next 10 years, about 550 new single-family homes will be built, and will range in price from $300,000 to $800,000, Adams said. Also, the West Linn-Wilsonville School District has discussed the possibility of constructing another primary school on a 10-acre lot. However, no plans have been finalized, Adams said.

Construction on the new Meridian Creek school began in Spring 2016 and has remained on schedule, according to Wilsonville officials. It's expected to be ready for the new school year beginning September 2017.

Meridian Creek will be the fourth middle school in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District and is expected to house 700 students.
